Abstract:LOFAR is currently under construction in Holland with outer stations in Germany and other European countries. It is a fully ditital telescope with no moving parts and will explore the low frequency sky with unprecedented sensitivity and angular resolution. I will outline the technical concept, operation issues and discuss the aim of the accepted Key Science projects. LOFAR will act as one of the pathfinder telescopes for the future SKA.
